A Natural Childbirth Training Simulation in Virtual Environment For Prospective Midwife

Lack of midwife skills is one of the main causes of high maternal mortality rate. Efforts to improve midwife skills have been conducted using various methods, such as the use of props. But the problems are the limited number of props and the difficulty of visualizing the actual childbirth process. This study aims to simulate the birth process using Virtual Reality to improve the skills of midwives. Virtual reality for natural childbirth training (VR-NACT) builds a virtual environment that provides real visualization and interaction for prospective midwives in simulated labor and delivery training. The virtual environment which it formed covers the main parts of the labor process, namely the baby, mother, umbilical cord, and placenta, as well as supporting visualizations such as tables and mattresses. Our results demonstrate that VR-NACT applied as a training simulation for natural childbirth. VR-NACT can provide the immersive experience in the form of visualization and real interaction in the virtual environment of simulated labor and delivery training.
