Query Optimization Techniques in Wireless Sensor Network: A Review

A Wireless Sensor populated in sensor nodes deployed Network (WSN) could be considered as a scattered data repository which gets in remote locations powered by limited batteries. To retrieve data from these nodes query processing techniques are used. As the applications of WSN are found in remote locations and extreme weather conditions the replacement or recharge of battery is impossible. Henceforth, it is highly required to conserve the battery power in order to increase the network lifetime. Among the sensing, storing, transmitting and receiving activities of sensor nodes, data communication is the most dominant energy consuming activity. Hence query optimization techniques are in huge demand in WSN. This paper presents the prominent query optimization algorithms that are used in WSN to address the issue of energy efficiency. The purpose of this review is to give an overview of the existing literature and research issues in query optimization techniques in WSN.
