This paper describes how modern digital recloser controls can use voltage detection, timers, and programmable recloser logic to accomplish the following: · Detect a loss of source and block fast curves prior to inrush on re-energization. · Reduce protection response time when reclosing to reduce repeated system stress. · Detect conductor slap upstream caused by an in-section fault, and lock out early to prevent continued conductor slap and eventual lockout of the upstream protection. · Detect the location of a fault in a noncommunicating loop scheme to prevent closing into a fault when attempting restoration.
