Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), an important communicational infrastructure and essential component of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) used for virtual warnings can be effectively used through connectivity-aware geocasting in intersection based urban traffic environment. Road safety and security can be enhanced remarkably by incorporating traffic signal values and predicting the probability of connectivity accordingly. Designing a connectivity-aware geocast routing protocol which analyses the impact of traffic signal on connectivity among vehicular nodes explores new areas with great challenges and responsibilities. This paper proposes an intersection based connectivity-aware geocast routing (IB-CAGR) and studies the impact of traffic signal on connectivity through simulation. Simulation results show that the proposed approach not only enhances the packet delivery ratio but also minimizes packet loss as compared to greedy routing.
