A Study on the Interactive Relationships Between the Formation of Three-Syllable Abbreviations and the Prosody

Most Chinese abbreviations consist of two syllables, but in certain cases, they are composed of three syllables in the form of super-prosody. On the basis of how to make up three-syllable abbreviations, this paper aims at exploring the interactive relationships between the forms of three-syllable abbreviations and the prosody. It is pointed out that the prosody makes a lot of contributions in terms of checking and adjusting the creation and usage of three-syllable abbreviations, during which, some components of three-syllable abbreviations will adapt themselves to the structure of prosodic morphology.
