The growing demand for an efficient management of the resources, like gas and water, requires a careful management and monitoring of the distribution grid. In this paper, a system for leakage detection, identification, and localization in water and gas pipe has been proposed. The system requires the installation of sensors on the distribution gas and water grids. A WSN, based on wM-Bus technology, is adopted to provide the required communication and synchronization services. In particular, the distributed measurement system requires a synchronization of the time reference of each acquisition point below the millisecond. The preliminary characterization of wM-Bus devices proved the feasibility of the proposed approach.
