Online Creativity in Engineering Education--A Flipped Creativity Approach for the Engineers Without Borders Challenge

Creativity is a key competence in times of industry 4.0 - however, it is hardly systematically promoted in engineering courses. The Engineers Without Borders Challenge is a teaching and learning format in which students have to develop creative ideas and which is therefore excellently suited to promote generic competence along the acquisition of engineering competences. However, it is difficult to allow students to go through a creative process completely and professionally with large numbers of students. This paper presents an approach that, in the sense of the flipped classroom, outsources part of the creative process to an online self-learning unit. On the one hand this meets the interests of the students and on the other hand reduces the effort for the teachers in the course.
