An efficient correlation between acoustic, tension, and temperature data from the Loma La Lata field,Argentina, indicates that natural fractures within the Quintuco and Vaca Muerta formations are not only open butalso are contributing to field production.The approach used in this project used shear anisotropy, excess-of-compliance modeling, and Stoneleyanalysis from the acoustic scanning platform tool to discriminate between open, closed, and induced fractures.Additional logs were used to evaluate potential production intervals in new wells. Unexpectedly, open fracturescorrelated strongly with an increase of tool cable tension, wellbore temperature changes, Stoneley attenuation, andsteeper flexural dispersion at higher frequencies.Production log results from a four-stage hydraulic fracture treatment showed that one interval with identifiedopen fractures had the highest oil production, although premature screenout had led to a lower amount of propaneinjection in that stage.Although not all the possibly open fractures are necessarily injecting fluids during the drilling process, theirproduction potential cannot be ignored.
