The prevalence of Diabet es in Argentina is now reaching 9.6 % of total population. Self blood glucose monitoring is one of th e m ost h elpful tools for d iabetes healthcare, mainly in Ty pe I diabe tes patients an d Ty pe 2 diabetes p atients u nder in sulin treatmen t. We d escribe t he design, development and implementation of a computer system for the collection, analysis, interpretation and storage of all the patient's blood gluc ose readings obtained by blood g lucose meters in th e course of S elf G lucose Mon itoring. Th e system has the capability to do wnload data from the main models and brands of meters used in our market. It also has the chance to record all th is d ata in th e patient's electronic med ical record (EMR). We r esume our experience on building such a s ystem and s how that X ML-based infor matics standar ds like H LICHA and structured text file fo rmat t echnology for clínica I and biome dical r aw data r epresentation and storage (nativ e DB-XML), plus Web-based technologies such as Web Services (JAX-WS) are pow erful tools for agile and c ollaborative development of healthcare systems.
