As a follow-on mission of the lunar orbiter Kaguya (SELENE), a lunar lander SELENE-2 is planned by the JapanAerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). SELENE-2 will land on the lunar surface and perform in-situ scientificobservations, environmental investigations, and research for future lunar utilization, including human activity. At thesame time, it will demonstrate key technologies such as precise and safe landing, surface mobility and night survivaltechnologies. To realize the SELENE-2 mission, the JAXA Space Exploration Center (JSPEC) endeavors to developadvanced technologies that will enable lunar surface activities. In addition, advanced test facilities for lunar surfaceexploration have been developed for technology verification. This paper details our technology development andadvanced test facilities for lunar surface exploration.
