Deposition of bioactive calcium phosphate coatings on ZrO_2 (Y-TZP) ceramics for applications in medicine

A two-step biomimetic method was employed for the synthesis of OCP coatings on zirconia (Y-TZP) ceramics. The main benefits of the method are a relatively quick synthesis, simplicity and a good reproducibility. In addition, β-TCP coatings with firm attachment to the substrate can be obtained by firing the coated ceramic substrates at 800 °C.
