A Method of Weak Signal Detection Based on Normalized Energy Spectrum in Flank

In flank weak signal detection, the method based on frequency domain broadband beamforming and energy detection are commonly used, which use the differences of incidence in space domain and differences of spectral level in time domain between signal and noise. To take full advantage of the differences both in spectral shapes and spectral levels in time domain, we presented an improved method, which based on frequency domain beamforming and normalized energy spectrum detection (FBEAM). Firstly, the output power spectral densities of different array elements are normalized by the mean of their energy in each band before beamforming, then the energy sum in all bands and detection are carried. The results of simulation and lake experiments proved the validity of the method.
