To Develop Design Philosophy of 'As If Nature': The 'Green and Harmonious' Planning Philosophy in Traditional and Modern Environmental Design in Suzhou

As a world-famous garden city, Suzhou has been emphasizing "a green environment" since ancient times. In its urban environmental design, the traditional philosophy of "as if nature" helps a lot to establish its status as a city good for human inhabitation. Today, Suzhou has further developed this planning idea to "a green and harmonious environmental design" and achieved satisfactory successes. In-depth case-studies of the "as if nature" design philosophy in both traditional and modem environmental design of Suzhou are made in order to create a more resplendence tomorrow for Suzhou's green urban environmental design.
