A Study of Rural Indoor Thermal Environment in Western Sichuan after the Wenchuan Earthquake

The quality of indoor thermal environment of the rural residence in the earthquake stricken area has brought lots of attention after the Wenchuan earthquake. In order to get the feature of local thermal environment and thermal sensation of local residents, and to discuss the evaluation method of indoor thermal environment in local climate condition, we have obtained the characteristics of outdoor meteorological parameters and indoor thermal environment parameters by measuring thermal environment of the rural residence (Free Running Building) and conducting investigations of subjective questionnaires about thermal sensation of the local residents for last in the countryside of western Sichuan province after the Wenchuan earthquake, and have got the indoor acceptable temperature range of the local residents by analysing the thermal sensation vote (TSV) of the residents in different thermal environment. Calculating the values of predicted mean vote (PMV) and comparing them with the values of TSV, we find that the indoor environment of local residences (Free Running Building) is harsh and the residents of this region have great thermal adaptation ability. The results also indicate that the values of PMV and TSV are not completely consistent in local climate condition, therefore the evaluation standards of indoor thermal environment should differ from different conditions, and the appraisal system of PMV should be carded on suitable revision according to different kinds of climatic conditions and crowd. Finally, we carry on simple heat preservation design of reconstruction house, and compare the indoor simulated temperature with heat preservation design with the outdoor temperature. We find that improving local residents' indoor thermal environment is effective and feasible with simple heat preservation design.
