This paper introduces a methodology for using Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) as a subtractive rapidmanufacturing (RM) process. This WEDM methodology uses a stereolithography (SLA) file as input andautomatically performs manufacturability analysis for WEDM and then generates an efficient tool path to generatethe part via a wire process. WEDM can be used to process high hardness products with complex geometryautomatically. Tangent visibility analysis, manufacturability analysis, and automatic NC code generation, which areessential aspects of using WEDM as a RM process, are discussed in detail.
