Catching elephants with mice

Welcome to SenSys'07, the 5th ACM International Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems! We have what promises to be an exciting technical program, highlighted by 25 excellent technical papers, a fascinating keynote talk by Seth Goldstein (CMU) entitled "On the Path Towards Programmable Matter", three interesting workshops, and a lively demo and poster session. For the first time, we will also have a special "soap box" talks session, for expressing strong, controversial and/or outrageous opinions on a topic within the scope of SenSys. There will be a best paper award, a best talk award, and several best demo awards (in different categories). These will be announced at the conference. >The 25 technical papers were selected from 149 completed paper submissions. Submissions were received from 21 countries across 6 continents. Each submitted paper was reviewed by at least three experts, one external reviewer and at least two Technical Program Committee (TPC) members, in the firstround. Approximately half of the papers made it to the second round and received 1 to 4 additional reviews. Most of these reviews were done by the TPC, but some papers with conflicting reviews were judged by additional external experts as well. Finally, 46 papers were discussed during the TPC meeting in Pittsburgh in June. All paper reviews and TPC discussions were double-blind, preserving both author and reviewer anonymity. Ultimately, 25 papers were selected for the final program. All these papers were carefully shepherded by a TPC member to ensure that all important reviewer comments were addressed.
