Capture of CO_2 from a cement plant - technical possibilities and economical estimates

This paper summarizes a concept study carried out during first half of 2005 for CO_2 capture at one of the existing cement plants of Norcem, a member of the Heidelberg Cement Group. CO_2 capture is found to be feasible at similar cost as for other types of CO_2 generating plants. Increased cost for handling of the impurities in the off gas is compensated by reductions in the CO_2 capture plant due to the high CO_2 concentration.
