FREQUENCY CONVERTERS FOR STARTING AND SPEED REGULATIONS OF AC MOTORS FOR TURBOMACHINE APPLICATIONS

Thyristor convertors for high power, high speed AC motors of different types have during the last years become a technical and economic solution for speed regulation and starting purposes. With a thyristor convertor and an AC motor, the drive will have very high efficiency, which will lower also the running cost compared to other means of flow control. With increasing energy cost this quality is of increasing importance. The maintenance cost for a convertor is also low as the only moving part is the cooling equipment for the thyristors. With a thyristor convertor the mechanical stress in connection with starting of the equipment will also be highly reduced.
