As a step towards multifunctional stimulisensitivedrug delivery systems, polymeric PEG-Pebasedmicelles have been prepared contained alsonovel pH-responsive PEG-PE polymers and biotin-PE. Under normal conditions, PEG chains shieldbiotin moieties, however at pH values below orabove neutral (mimicking certain pathologicalconditions), some of PEG chains detach and hiddenbiotin function becomes exposed and reactive.Micelles of this type can containing, for example,tumor cell-specific ligand or transduction moiety,can accumulate in tumors via the EPR effect, losetheir PEG corona under the action of locallyabnormal pH, and get internalized by cancer cellsvia exposed cell-specific functions.
