A homogeneous spray burner was developed toperform a fundamental study onpartially-prevaporized spray combustion.Laminar streams of partially-prevaporized spraywere generated by the condensation method usingrapid expansion of a saturated ethanol vapor-airmixture. Microgravity experiments wereperformed for large droplet streams because largedroplets fall down during the spray generationprocess at normal gravity. A coaxial flow nozzleburner was applied to eliminate influence of oxygenin ambient air on combustion. The mean dropletdiameter was able to be varied within the range of3-120 μm and was stable during an experimentunder normal and microgravity conditions. A flatflame was realized successfully in a laminar spraystream with a stagnation plate. The burningvelocity of the spray flame in the stretched stream ofthe liquid equivalence ratio of 0.3 and the meandroplet diameter of 3 μm exceeds that of thepremixed flame on the fuel-lean side. On the otherhand, the inequality is reversed on the fuel-rich side.In the stretched spray stream ofΦt = 0.9, the burningvelocity increases as the liquid equivalence ratioincreases.
