Effect of Soil Crusting on Soil Wind Erosion

Soil crusting is a self-protection of the soil to resist wind erosion, which can stabilizethe soil and greatly enhance the resistance of ground soil against wind erosion, so it calls moreand more attention to the uncultivated and deserted areas. There are two kinds of soil crusts:physical soil crust and biological soil crust. The production of the latter needs a long time, whilethe former comes into being easily after a dry ing and wetting process. This paper studies therelationship between the formation of physical soil crust and the percentage of water in the soil,the composition of soil particles in the light of the analysis after the observation on the spot to thesamples of soil crust of the original state from different soil, and observes them with electronicmicroscope, the paper also gives a detailed account of soil’s anti-erosion, so that they can bepaid adequate attention to prevent the soil desertification in the dry and cold areas, and to reducethe soil crusting and lessen the damage of wind erosion to the ground soil in winter and spring.
