The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate the muco adhesive buccal tablets of secnidazole for the treatment of oro dental infections. 100mg of tablet contained 20 mg of drug and the polymer matrix consisted of two polymers ,Carbopol 934P was used in combination with the following polymers, Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose(HPMC) K15M, Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose(SCMC),Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidine(PVP) K-30,HPMC K4M and Hydroxy Propyl Cellulose-M(HPC-M).These tablets were evaluated for the in vitro release studies, bio adhesive performance. The formulation containing CP934P and SCMC was found to give the best results and hence was chosen for optimization. The optimized formulation was subjected to the in situ release studies , permeation studies, microbiological evaluation, in vivo studie and stability studies.
