Measurement of long-range hydrophobic attraction forces and their relationship to deinking flotation: part IV.recent measurements and high-speed video
Recent measurements of hydrophobic attraction forces between bubbles and spherical glass beads are reported using a novel method to determine the position of the bubble surface. Time studies of aging effects of the glass beads immersed in distilled water are presented. The time study results show a stable hydrophobic surface when the beads are treated with octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS), but a substantial decrease in attraction with time when untreated beads are immersed for the same duration. A technique for visual observation using high-speed/high-magnification video is described, and results reported. High-speed images show a highly mobile bubble surface that deforms when external forces are applied.
