The addition of water-soluble polymer to fine coal slurry to enhancedewatering press of fine coal is considered to be one of the mosteffective ways of solving the problems of dewatering of fine coal. Thisstudy investigated the adsorption behavior of a water-solublepolymer,PACS-2, and its role in the flculation and filtration of fine coalslurries. Adsorption of PACS-2 on coal, pyrite, and shale mineralsrevealed that: (a) PACS-2 had a higher adsorption affinity to coal andpyrite than that on shal; and (b) PACS-2 aided the flculation of coalslurries and improved the moisture removal by filtration from 27% to21.4%.
