With today's facts and trends in the market, it is superfluous to explain, why in-line gauging in rolling mills is about to become common practice. Whereas until recent times, gauges were mainly installed at the end of the mill for final quality control and documentation, more and more mill managers install gauges upstream in the mill, in order to have an earlier and generally better control of the rolling process. Even for billet size measurement in the continuous casting process in-line gauging is now considered by many companies.
