Currently, Kevlar fabric is used for bus upholstery. Cheaper Kynol fabric is attractive for this application, but it suffers from intrinsically inferior flame retardation compared to Kevlar. Novel polymer (organic/inorganic) blends were developed with greatly enhanced flame retardation. Actual bus seats were covered with the coated Kynol fabric.
