During the latest decades tyre/road noise has been found to be one of the most significant part of road traffic noise. Since the engine noise is constantly being reduced by the vehicle manufacturers, tyre noise is the dominant source of noise at moderate to high speeds. Therefore it is necessary to study the mechanism of tyre/road noise through simulation methods in order to reduce it. The first part of the paper describes the review of some recently published work on tyre/road noise. It explains the tyre/road noise generation mechanism and the effect of various parameters like speed, tread pattern, road surface texture, tread material and load on tyre noise.
