This paper presents a real noise control problem of a heating and ventilating system located at the top of a commercial building, in Sao Paulo, S.P, Brasil. Considering that HVAC system operates until 12:00 p.m, noise emited by two chillers and three pumps input annoyance to a residencial building nearby. First of all, we realized some acoustical measurements close to the mechanical installation and also inside two apartments in the residencial building. We confirmed that sound pressure levels due to the HVAC system were higher than the limits defined in specific legislation. Afterwards the possible acoustic treatments were analysed; however, the main difficulty was to provide noise control in equipments that work weatherproof. Noise control design defined two actions: 1. creation of acoustic panels over each chiller arrangement, but far away at least 1.5 m from the fan outlets to permit air intake; 2. improvement of noise barriers around all the structural floor perimeter, because the existent walls were built in a thin aluminium plate.
