Treatment of landfill leachate with on-site disposal is being carried out at the Genoe and Nottawasaga-10 landfills in Ontario since 1994 and 1996 respectively. Raw leachate is sprayed onto the absorbent Waterloo Biofilter ~(circle R) in a rougher-polisher sequence, and is biochemically treated as it percolates slowly down through the medium. Spray irrigation or pressurized tile bed is used for disposal. Cost recovery is less than three years.
