Push pull tests were carried out to investigate the contribution of biodegradation and volatilization to the removal of groundwater contamination during in situ air sparging (IAS). The push pull tests consisted of a controlled injection of a prepared test solution into two single wells at diferent distances from the sparge well, followed by periodical extraction of a mixture of the test solution and groundwater. Different tracers were added to the test solution: bromide to account for dilution effects, PCE as a volatile aerobically non biodegradable tracer and acetate as a non volatile aerobically biodegradable tracer.
