This paper reviews the progress that has been made at several Chinese laboratories in research on x-ray lasers and other x-ray sources. The recent results of Ne-like and Ni-like x-ray lasers at Shenguang II and Xingguang II laser facilities are presented. Continued and rapid progress on other x-ray sources have also been made using the newly developed multi-TW femtosecond laser systems in Shanghai and Beijing. Using these femtosecond laser systems, interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with gases and solids has been studied.
