Diagnostics of plasmas in the X-ray range is important for understanding plasma physics in general and optimising the performance of X-ray lasers in particular. Here, we describe the construction of a focusing toroidal crystal spectrometer for diagnosis of the water window X-ray laser experiment described by Daido et al in these proceedings.
