In order to approach more favorable thermodynamical conditions for efficient lasing along high-energy transitions in H-like ions following the "standard" collisional recombination scheme, the pumping laser parameters (duration, intensity, and pulse shape) have to be carefully chosen. With the help of the well-improved set of numerical codes developed at CEA/DIF, optima have been derived for lasing at 38.8 A in ALXIII. Spectroscopic studies, performed last year at the P102 laser facility in Limeil, have already provided an interesting check of the plasma behavior as a function of laser duration and intensity. The final test has been performed and results obtained this year during a fully-dedicated X-ray laser campaign are presented. Even if the recorded spectrum exhibits the 3d-2p Al line with no clear evidence of lasing, demonstration is foreseen, through significant absorption improvements.
