摘要

Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane(HNIW) is a polycyclic cage nitramine and the most powerful high energy density compound (HEDC) ever tested. The authors synthesized HNIW from tetraacetyldiformylhexaazaisowurtzitane (TADFIW) which was prepared via condensation and benzylation, starting with benzylamine and glyoxal. The structure of the obtained HNIW was identified by FITR, ~1HNMR, MS(CI) and elemental analysis, while purity determined by HPLC. It was found that the synthesized HNIW contains a small amount (2% ~ 3%) of incomplete-nitrated product which has been separated and characterized as pentanitromonoformylhexaazaisowurtzitane (PNMFIW). The authors' process for synthesizing HNIW possesses the following advantages: low consumption of catalyst, mild reaction conditions, high yield, simple procedure, and commercially available reagents in China etc.
