A study is being reported, concentrating on the numerical modelling incorporatingvarious support conditions in order to assess the effect of soil-structure interaction on the dynamicbehaviour of large-span dome structures. Numerical analysis is carried via the finite elementmethod. Kinematic and material non-linearity is not considered by the analysis. Earthquake loadingis inputted in the form of a single excitation for the whole structure including the effect of the verticalcomponent of the acceleration. A response spectrum is used to describe the input earthquakeloading to the structure. A comparison of results is undertaken for support conditions neglectingsoil-structure interaction and those considering this effect. The study concludes that the incorporationof the soil-structure interaction effect yields adverse dynamic behaviour of these structures.
