摘要

To extend the life of steel ladles in a duty cycle requiring heavy use of ladle arc reheating and corrosive synthetic slags, WCI Steel Company investigated the application of sprayed refractory linings as veneers over existing brick and as full working linings. A step-wise program was employed to ensure minimal risk at all times while assessing the factors that limit the ultimate life of each ladle. Spraying resulted in significant improvement in ladle life and in ladle availability, and reduced manhours required for relining.
