High surface area oxides like titania or alumina are commonly produced by high temperature flame processes like flame hydrolysis. Products from flame hydrolysis are so-called "nanostructured" oxides. The term "nanostructured" means that the material is composed of nano-scaled primary particles that are sintered in the production process to form aggregates connected by solid bridges. These oxides are very sinter-active, that means that for instance nanostructured alumina fully densities at temperatures.
