We consider TCP (Transport Control Protocol) performance over the packet switching high speed wireless network environment, where the IS-2000 system is considered. We compare differences between the performance characteristics of a circuit based CDMA (code division multiple access) system and a packet switching CDMA system. Then, we evaluate the TCP performance over the IS-2000 system by using computer simulation. Also, we propose critical performance improvement principles for a high speed packet switching CDMA system. According to performance evaluation results, we show that small channel assignment duration and appropriate TCP receive buffer size could provide reliable and efficient TCP performance over a high speed packet switching system such as IS-2000.
