Cardiac nonmyocyte hyperplasia is modulated by angiotensin II and stretch

Results indicate that angiotensin II and stretch are necessary for the initiation of the hyperplasia response of nonmyocytes in cardiac hypertrophy. Because renin message levels determined using RT-PCR were quite low, however, it is unlikely that an autocrine mechanism of angiotensin production using renin is present in nonmyocytes.
