Designing WDM optical network for reliability: routing light paths efficiently for path protection

We have suggested two strategies for path protection in WDM networks-one for path protection without spare capacity sharing and one that allows the spare capacities to be shared. Heuristic algorithms for efficiently determining the working and protection light-paths have been proposed and their performances studied through simulations on a model of the ARPA-2 network.
