Summary form only given. In conclusion, we have shown that to measure the duration of high-energy ultrashort laser pulses the technique of two-photon-excited fluorescence has certain important advantages over conventionally used second-harmonic generation. Some of these advantages are the large wavelength tuning range from near-IR to near-UV and the possibility of detecting images, as well as the simplicity of the optical arrangement and a relatively low cost of the dye-doped polymer films with respect to nonlinear crystals.
