In order to improve the quality of service to its customers, Electricite de France has decided to make important changes in the coming years, which will affect the HV/MV substation protection-control systems evolution. Consequently, the increase in the number of MV networks placed underground, and evolution in the neutral earthing condition will lead to major changes in the protection plan. The authors describe how the implementation of this plan, together with the necessary renewal of equipment, particularly MV cubicles, makes it necessary to rethink HV/MV substation protection-control taking account of the availability of digital technology.
