An expert system for optimising and controlling combustion in multiple burner furnaces and boiler plants

An expert system is described for optimizing combustion in multiple-burner furnaces and boiler plants in the steel industry. The author details the limitations of the system and argues that to be a real expert it must be able to learn from its experience. He proposes modifications to the expert system that will enable it to do so.
