A data assimilation approach is herein explored to integrate remotely sensed vegetation index (VI) products into a crop growth model for improving crop yield estimation. The objective is to improve crop yield estimation using quality MODIS VI products. The DSSAT crop growth model and the MCRM canopy reflectance model was linked with the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) from simulation and satellite observations. This method was applied successfully to estimate the corn yield in Indiana in 2001.
