From innovation theoretical view: a study on application of information technology to traditional industry

This paper focuses on studies of application pattern of information technology to renovation process in traditional industries in China. Based on innovation theories, general function of IT in application to traditional industries is analyzed. After general comparative study between Chinese and Japanese situations in application of IT, cluster and correlation studies have been further applied to analysis of Chinese industries based on statistical data related to technological input and economic output indicators. The main finding is that application pattern and its efficiency are closely connected with appropriate conditions the industry can offer. As traditional industries in China are generally less active in accumulating engineering as well as managerial information and in promoting necessary interface technology and standard environment, the actual pattern in application of IT is short term benefit, not long term benefit style.
