Abstract: The aim of this work is the removal of distracting background patterns from forensic evidence so that the evidence is rendered more visible. An example is the image of a finger print on a non-periodic background. The method involves registering the image with a control image of the background pattern that we seek to remove. A statistical comparison of the registered images identifies the latent mark.!11
