Technology has been heralded through history as a means for making people's lives better, and at the same time cursed as a dangerous threat to humanity. Both positions have examples to back up their claims. Technology has certainly led to inventions that save time, improve communication, make travel easier, decrease burdensome work loads, and even save lives. At the same time technology can threaten privacy, jobs, and even lives. Essentially technology is neutral, and the means in which new devices and methods are used determines its value or threat. The purpose of the book, Cybersins and Digital Good Deeds: A Book about Technology and Ethics, is to offer in layman's terms clear descriptions of terms and issues related to technology and ethics. One intention behind the book is to demystify some of the terms often heard in threatening tones but perhaps not understood by the uninitiated user. At the same time the content emphasizes that technology also offers many new and promising ways of improving lives.
