Putting greens are sometimes constructed on native soil and sodded to reduce costs and time of establishment.Water use requirements of warm-season cultivars has increased in importance due to recent drought and increased restrictions on fresh water irrigation.‘TifDwarf’ (TD) bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.x C.transvaalensis Burt Davy],‘SeaDwarf’ (SD) seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz),and ‘PristineFlora’ (PF) zoysiagrass [Zoysia japonica Stued.x Zoysia tenuifolia (L.) Merr.] were sodded on Hallandale fine sand (Siliceous,hyperthermic Lithic Psammaquent) and irrigated at 25,50,or 100% of potential evapotranspiration (ETo) to compare their drought resistance.All cultivars wilted objectionably at 25,50,and 100% ETo.SD had the least wilting at 25% ETo.TD wilted most at 50% ETo.PF had the highest evapotranspiration (ET) rates,while SD had the lowest.Irrigation at 100% ETo was insufficient for all cultivars.
