As one of the biggest karst springs in northern China, the Shentou springs outcrop at Shentou town of Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. The karst water flow direction is in accordance with the variation pattern of TDS, HCO_3~-, SO_4~(2-), Ca~(2+), Mg~(2+) contents of karst water samples. The hydrochemical type and the TDS value of karst water samples are highly alike, indicating that hydrochemical features of karst water are formed under similar conditions and the karst water flows very quickly. The result of clustering analysis of the hydrochemistry of single springs well corresponds to the division of three subsystems of the Shentou karst water system. Some pore water samples show strong correlation with karst water samples, reflecting the hydraulic connection between the two types of groundwaters at Shentou.
