The effects of methamidophos on soil microbial activity were studied. Soil was treated with methamidophos at doses of 0, 0.5, 2.5, 5 and 10 μg/g. The populations of bacteria, actinomyces, azotobacter and fungi were determined, as well as soil respiration, nitrogen fixation, nitrification, ammonification and Fe(Ⅲ) reduction. The results showed that growth of bacteria, actinomyces and azotobacter was inhibited, as were soil nitrogen fixation and Fe(Ⅲ) reduction, whereas fungi growth was stimulated. In general, soil respiration was also stimulated, but it showed a complex trend. The effects of methamidophos were stronger, and lasted longer, as the dose increased.
